The carved birds, … Read more Exquisite 20th century Chinese export six-panel lacquered folding screen featuring intricately carved soapstone of flora and fauna. The carved birds, flowers, and foliage have vivid colors and fascinating textures. The screen is constructed from solid, heavy lacquered panels having square legs ending with patinated brass-clad feet. The scene is bordered by mother-of-pearl inlay in a geometric pattern. The bottom of each panel is decorated with windows featuring various shaped vases and flowers. The reverse side is decorated with a repeating pattern of gilt peacocks over a black ground. Exceptional condition give age and use with a desirable aged patina on the lacquer and stone. From an estate in San Francisco, California.
