Large Neoclassical Pompeian Style Six Panel Folding Screen With Trompe L’Oeil Interior
Exceptional large-scale six-panel folding screen in the Neoclassical Pompeian taste, featuring an elaborate hand-painted trompe l’oeil interior scene with classical architectural ornamentation.
The decorative composition includes gilt garlands, urns, medallions, candelabra, classical figures, upholstered seating, and an ornate fireplace rendered in the style of late 18th century Roman and Louis XVI interiors. The palette combines soft celadon blue, blush pink, cream, black, and extensive gilded accents.
The surface displays beautifully aged distressing and craquelure throughout, contributing to the screen’s dramatic Grand Tour aesthetic. The reverse side is finished in a pink patterned paper covering.
