Lovely Japanese painted 4-panel byobu (folding screen) “Quails and Pampas Grass” by Koga / 光峨. Signed and sealed by the artist. Gouache, watercolor and ink on gold-leaf style paper. Silk brocade border. Lacquered black wood frame with beautifully engraved copper corners, plaques and medallions, showing some age patina. Paper on back. Eight new hanging hooks for easy installation are included. Comes in a cardboard storage case. Japan, Showa Era, circa 1970-1980s. Nearly Excellent condition - no damage to the painting, minimal age wear overall, some chips and scratches on the lower edges of the lacquered frame, strong hinges, clean, sturdy. This byobu was kept in the Art Center in Kyoto for 4-5 decades for preserving design patterns.
