This is a campaign chest, a type of portable furniture designed for travel and used by the British military officers in the 18th and 19th centuries. Details include brass recessed handles (flush so they wouldn't snag during transport), corner and edge brass mounts (to protect against knocks) and two-part construction (the chest separates into upper and lower halves for easier shipment). Both parts rest on turned bun feet (which are removable).

CIRCA: Likely mid-to-late 19th century (1850-1880)

Top: large scratch midway to the back of the chest, there are various gouges, scratches and dings. The sides have the most wear. It came without keys and I do not think the escutcheons are original. The bun feet are sturdy. The chest comes in 2 pieces and there currently is no way to lock the pieces into place, rather the top just rests on the bottom piece. The drawer bottoms have all been replaced at some point and there is a small gap between the face of the drawer and the bottom of the drawer (seen when opened). The bottom drawer has a particle board bottom. All of the drawers open and close. The interior lock mechanisms are missing in both of the bottom drawers (seen when you open the drawer). There are no keys. I am happy to answer any questions you may have prior to purchase. We are limited to how many photos we can download per listing, however, I am happy to send more photos if needed. less
