The chest features a substantial lift-up lid which opens to reveal an unusually elaborate fitted interior, thoughtfully arranged to provide extensive organised storage. Internally, the chest incorporates twelve small drawers alongside a generous larger storage compartment. This highly practical configuration provides excellent organisation for a wide variety of smaller objects while retaining substantial space for larger items. The extensive fitted interior is a particularly appealing feature, demonstrating the considerable attention to detail and thoughtful cabinet making invested in the construction of the piece. The chest retains its original key, an attractive surviving feature that further enhances its established Victorian character. Substantial iron carrying handles are fitted to either side, reflecting the robust and practical nature of the original design while providing an attractive contrast against the warm tones of the pine. Throughout, the pine displays beautiful natural grain, rich warm colouring and attractive tonal variation developed through age and historic use. The matured timber contributes considerable warmth and character to the piece. The chest stands on a substantial plinth base, providing a strong and stable foundation while giving the piece a reassuringly solid and well-balanced appearance. Very well made and of fine quality, the chest demonstrates accomplished traditional joinery and robust construction throughout. The combination of its extensive fitted interior and substantial exterior makes it both highly functional and visually distinctive. At 101 cm wide and 57 cm deep, the chest provides considerable storage capacity while remaining versatile enough for use within a study, hallway, office, bedroom or living space. The combination of twelve fitted drawers, a large storage compartment, original key, substantial iron carrying handles and beautifully matured pine makes this an especially interesting and desirable example of Victorian storage furniture. Presented in good antique condition, with appropriate signs of age and historic use consistent with its 19th-century origin. A highly desirable Victorian fitted pine chest combining exceptional organised storage, robust traditional craftsmanship and beautifully matured timber within an unusual and highly practical design.
