The shaped carved apron and the curved front show the exuberance of the style. The Louis XV style takes its name from the French king who reigned from 1715 to 1774, and its taste for curved lines and graceful ornament, known as Rococo, shaped French furniture for generations. Provincial workshops kept the cabriole leg and the shaped apron alive long after the court had moved on. Age-appropriate wear and a soft patina speak to a long and honest working life. A piece of this kind earns its place through use, offering storage and presence in equal measure. See less
