With its simple, clean lines and yellow pine secondary wood, this chest exemplifies the beauty of the restrained "Neat & Plain" design principles of Southern Neoclassical furniture in the early 1800s. Having a history of family ownership in Virginia, it is most likely from there. The construction details are consistent with pieces from the Shenandoah Valley in the western part of the state.
