The commode is beautifully veneered in … Read more An exquisite Louis XV style bombé chest featuring exceptional craftsmanship and classic Rococo lines. The commode is beautifully veneered in a geometric rosewood parquetry/marquetry inlay that catches the light elegantly. It is crowned with a thick, contoured Brèche d'Alep (Aleppo) marble top with a beautifully beveled edge. The chest features three curved drawers, with dovetail joinery adorned with finely cast ormolu (gilt-bronze) handles, corner mounts, and an apron sabot. The rich wood grain shows wonderful depth and warm tones, making it a spectacular statement piece for an entryway, bedroom, or living space. The chest is in excellent vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use. There is one small, clean veneer chip missing just above the ormolu mount on the front left corner. Crucially, the original missing wood chip has been preserved and is included with the piece for easy restoration if desired.This piece comes with excellent documentation, including a physical slip showing its continuous provenance from a 1972 auction.
