At a commanding 40″ high, this exceptional piece was designed during a time when French furniture makers were embracing simple forms and quality materials in response to the excessive ornamentation of earlier styles.

The case is veneered in a book-matched burled walnut, a hallmark of fine French cabinetmaking. The rich grain pattern would have been highly prized in mid-19th century Parisian salons.

The commode is topped in its original Sainte-Anne marble top, quarried near Marseille and often used in quality French cabinetry of the period. This marble was a mark of distinction, preferred by craftsmen for its ability to resist heat and wear.
