This antique chest from France is composed of broad walnut boards framed with subtly rounded corners and a slightly projecting molded edge at its top. It has been designed with strong Louis XVI Revival influences. Restrained neoclassical lines, softened with rounded and flute-carved front side posts, that flank three full-sized drawers, and descend gracefully to slender, turned tapered legs and peg feet. Each drawer is adorned with great hardware consisting of ring-pull center mounts adorn with raised flower heads, outlined in beading, and framed by a deeply modeled twisted rope pull. The walnut displays a wonderfully mellow, deep cognac-brown finish, with nicely aged patina revealing the wood's fine grain and beautiful tonal variations. Please note that some of the boards on the backside have been replaced. This elegant 19th century French chest of drawers, with clean architectural lines and wonderful hardware, is a refined and highly decorative storage piece with excellent scale that would be a wonderful addition to a foyer, living, or bedroom.
