The three-drawer commode … Read more French Art Deco walnut commode by Mercier Frères, Paris, dating to the late 1920s or early 1930s. The three-drawer commode features richly figured walnut veneer arranged in striking geometric patterns across the drawer fronts and top. Carefully matched veneers create symmetrical diamond and chevron motifs, complemented by softly rounded corners with carved vertical fluting and a stepped plinth raised on short block feet. Each of the three spacious drawers is fitted with a pair of circular brass ring pulls and retains traditional dovetailed construction. The commode bears its original metal plaque reading “Ameublements, Styles Anciens et Modernes, Mercier Frères, 100 Faubourg St. Antoine, Paris,” identifying the Parisian furniture house Mercier Frères. Sourced in Paris, France. Professionally restored and refinished, preserving the character and rich figuring of the walnut.
