It appears to be one of a kind, and not a factory made snuff bottles that are of uniform shape and size. The stone is brecciated jasper. Brecciated jasper is a type of jasper stone that is made up of fragments of different colored stones that are cemented together. Although there are a few of brecciated jasper bottles in the collection, this snuff bottle has fragments that has iridescent materials, that are infused with the other brown, black and red stones. It is also highly polished so the iridescent parts really shine. The carver who made this bottle gave it a flattened elongated form that tapers to a wide oval foot. The shoulders support a short neck and the top is not a perfect circle, nor is the opening. It is nicely hollowed. To enhance its shiny qualities, it is matched with a goldstone stopper on a black disk. See less
