The painted surface features a deep blue-teal … Read more 19th-century Swedish pine dome-top trunk retaining its original hand-painted finish and dated 1863. The painted surface features a deep blue-teal background decorated with floral bouquets and garlands in red and yellow, accented with black foliage. A painted monogram and date on the front indicate this trunk was likely created as a wedding or dowry present.
Constructed with large dovetail joinery and fitted with heavy wrought iron side handles, long strap hinges, and reinforced iron corner elements. The trunk is raised on simple feet. Two age-related separations are visible along the top, typical of dome-top trunks from this period; the iron straps hold the structure firmly in place. A similar horizontal separation is visible along the front panel.
Additional signs of age include small scratches, gouges, and traces of old, dried wormhole activity, all consistent with an antique of this age. There is no functioning lock or key. Both the interior and exterior have been waxed. Restored, strong, stable, and ready for use.
