Antique solid teak wood Zanzibar trunk, c.1850, used for transporting goods along the Silk Road from Africa to India.
A handsome looking trunk with a hinged top and standing on bun feet. Profusely decorated with brass nailheads and pierced geometric shaped sheets of brass on all sides except the back which is plain. Sturdy brass carrying handles on either end. The interior is open with a candle box to the upper right. Recently cleaned, with brass polished and lacquered so it won’t discolor. The bun feet have been added later.
