I've been designing interiors professionally for more than twenty years.
I came to design from the software industry, where I spent ten years in Seattle leading worldwide marketing programs. In 2005 I opened my first design studio in Bellevue, Washington. When I moved to Austin in 2014, I rebuilt the business here from the ground up. Over the next decade I worked across full-service residential design, staging and events. Full-service residential, and the furnishings and textiles that finish a home, became the heart of the practice.
Today that practice is Michelle Taylor Interiors & Home. We design residential interiors in Austin and beyond, and we make our own collection of pillows, sewn in Austin and signed and numbered. We also run a trade program for designers, architects and builders. In August 2026 we opened our studio at 2207 Lake Austin Boulevard. It has a showroom floor and a trade room, and every piece on it, antique to newly made, is chosen by me.
I'm largely self-taught. I learned materials by handling them, and I learned rooms by being in them. That's also how I buy. I look for pieces with real age, real craftsmanship and a clear reason to be in a room.
My work is built on the Sensory Living Method™, my approach to designing rooms around how they feel to live in.
