Elevate your antique porcelain collection with this exquisite Theodore Haviland Limoges fine translucent porcelain china set of six berry bowls. The pattern seen in the photos are of floating cloud-shapes, all around the base accented with relief raised gold gilt accents. The rims are “dusted” with what looks like airy and delicate gold gilt poufs, as well. The entire composition of the design anchors the set, making them spectacular statement pieces for standard table settings or holiday dinners. The pattern as seen in the photos is marked with a green underglaze backstamp that was used at the turn of the century, approximately 1900 to 1903. In pristine condition. The set of six weighs 2 lbs. 4 oz. and measure as follows:
Dimensions each bowl: 5½” diameter rim; 3” diameter base; 2½” high
Capacity: 16 oz. liquid capacity apiece
The original company, Haviland & Co., was founded by David Haviland in 1842. Theodore Haviland, one of David’s sons, began working for the family porcelain business in 1864 and by 1878 the company was the largest in the area, according to Warman's English & Continental Pottery & Porcelain: Identification & Price Guide by Susan D. Bagdade and Al Bagdade. Théodore Haviland left his father’s company to start his own company in 1893 in Limoges France. Theodore moved his business from France to the United States in 1936, where it continued operating until 1957. It is estimated that there are over 30,000 patterns or variations of patterns produced by the Haviland firms. Many were not named, especially before 1926.
These beauties embody the luxurious craftsmanship of Haviland French Limoges fine translucent porcelain china. For a collector of Art Nouveau or Art Deco-style fine porcelain china, this set should be a must have or the perfect gift for someone who is.
