Two women and a fish: a combination that in Talani's hands produces something natural and strange at once, a kind of coastal mythology grounded in the lived reality of a fishing village. The figures move through the composition with the ease of people comfortable beside water, and the fish is present the way objects often appear in Talani's work: not as symbol but as fact, carrying a charge that comes from long familiarity with the marine world of the Tuscan coast. Color is warm and saturated, the board retaining the density his oil paintings are known for. Talani's relationship with fish as subject and symbol ran deep. He grew up where fishing boats went out before dawn and came back with their catch before noon, and the fish in his paintings carry that lived familiarity. A distinctive and memorable work suitable for a living space, dining room, or any setting where a work of warmth and narrative interest is desired.
Giampaolo Talani (1955–2018) was born in San Vincenzo, Tuscany, on the Tyrrhenian coast, and trained at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts under Goffredo Trovarelli. After completing his training, his work moved from traditional and fresco painting through sculpture and interpretive exhibition, culminating in his passion for public art — most notably a 20-meter bronze sailor installed in the Port of Miami and installations at Berlin's East Side Gallery. He was exhibited at the Venice Biennale (2011), the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi, and the Pinacoteca del Quirinale, and received the prestigious Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award at the Florence Biennale in 2015. The painting comes with a certificate of authenticity.
