An authentic early 20th century Korean dovetailed elm chest often used for storing valuables or clothing.
The large fish-form lock, common on chests from the provinces of northern Korea, symbolizes fertility and good fortune. High-quality rectangular solid elm wood case with dovetail joinery and partial hinged lid. Elaborate metalwork, known as Changsok, a standout feature of late Joseon dynasty furniture, serve both decorative and utilitarian purposes, all raised on sturdy bracket feet. circa 1900-1920
Highlights include a pair of flying crane bird figures, bail handles, strapwork hinges and mountings, ornate pierced lockplate and functional figural fish shaped brass lock with original key.

Acquired from the reputable auction house Dallas Auction Gallery, Dallas Design District, Texas.

Condition:
Great antique condition with nicely aged warm rich dark patina. Wear commensurate with age and use, including minor nicks, abrasions, accretions, patinated brass fittings, nothing that detracts from the display or functionality, but only adds to the overall authenticity, sophisticated elegance, warmth and rich historical depth that can only be acquired over long periods of time!
