For me, lighting has always been the absolute jewelry of a room, and this incredible vintage 1970s faux bamboo chandelier—which we lovingly named "The Philippe" in the studio—is the ultimate statement piece. When Russell and I first found this, the lines were spectacular, but the finish was completely gone. I brought it back to the studio and put it through our exhaustive Foundation Alchemy prep process before giving it a total, top-tier aesthetic overhaul.
Instead of a flat, basic paint job, I custom-mixed a gorgeous, multi-layered pistachio green finish for the main body. To give it the soul and depth of a true antique, I hand-applied a delicate, artisanal fly speckling over the green. But the real magic is in the details—I hand-applied genuine gold leaf to every single faux bamboo joint, node, and botanical accent to give it that authentic, shimmering warmth that you only get with real leafing. Then, I meticulously placed genuine Austrian crystals right at the tip of each leaf and nestled them within the palm dates. When this piece catches the breeze or the evening light, those crystals refract a soft, atmospheric glow across the room that is pure theater.
The silhouette immediately channels the whimsical, high-octane luxury of Tony Duquette and the legendary, colorful elegance of Dorothy Draper. It hits that exact, luxurious Palm Beach Regency note mixed with a serious dose of maximalist confidence. It is the absolute dream centerpiece for a lush, layered dining space or a grand Hollywood Regency entryway. This piece represents everything we love to do here at Turtle and Crane: turning the past into stunning decor for today.
