There are style icons, and then there is Dorothy Draper, the ladylike interior designer who famously “draperized” some of America’s most important buildings. Draper was the inventor of the still celebrated style of American Baroque, bringing a modern flare to a classical style. She used ornate mouldings and plaster designs on almost every surface, alongside splashy color combinations like aubergine and pink. Draper stated, "Keep busy searching out new ideas and, experimentally, keep ahead of the times, or at least up with them."
