A fruitful collaboration with Fostoria came from designer, George Sakier. Straying from the cut glass look the company was known for, Sakier created a stunning line of modernist glassware and vases for the company as their main consultant between 1929 and 1979. While his designs ranged from classic to modern, Sakier was best known for his art deco designs which demonstrated how elegant simple shapes could be. This beauty was left to me by my grandma who was a highly enthusiastic Fostoria collector. In pristine condition with little to no wear visible, it offers considerable visual interest. Art-like in its appearance, the bowl is done in rich jet black glass with sleek scrolled handles that extend underneath to create the pedestal base. The look weds modernism with both tradition and elegance. Substantial in size and weight, it measures 14” wide (handle-tip-to-handle-tip); bowl diameter 9¾”; height 5½”; bowl depth 3½”; weight 3 lbs. Artistically, it is a head turner and a piece that will complement most any style and space.
