This Ansonia mantle clock, crafted in the rococo style, features a black metal case with cast iron or bronze mounts and still has its original key.
Purchased over 30 years ago at an estate sale by a member of Clover’s Cottage, it has been a cherished piece for decades. Recently refurbished by a Charlotte clock refinisher, it boasts an 8-day twin train striking movement that chimes the hours and half-hours on a gong.
The dial reads “Manufactured by the Ansonia Clock Company, New York, United States of America,” a firm active from around 1850 to 1930, ...... its Roman numerals reflect its late 19th-century heritage. The object is an antique cast iron Rococo-style mantel clock by the Ansonia Clock Company.
Ansonia Clock Co. was an American clock manufacturer founded in Ansonia, Connecticut, in 1851.
The clock features ornate brass or gilt metal scroll ornamentation and a black lacquered metal case.
It has a round porcelain or enamel dial with Roman numerals and intricate hands.
It typically has an 8-day time and strike spring-driven mechanical movement.
Clocks of this style were popular in the late 19th century.

It has been in our possession since the 1980's, complete with its original key. As noted in the attached receipt, it was recently oiled and serviced by a well-respected clock repair company in Charlotte, North Carolina. The chime tone and overall condition of the clock is truly exceptional. less
