Eagles like this don’t wait around. One-of-a-kind surface, century-old soul, and the kind of presence that commands a room—this is the piece serious collectors recognize instantly and move fast to claim.
This copper eagle weathervane, New England, ca. 1890–1910, captures the strength and symbolism of America’s national bird. With a 22-inch wingspan, the eagle is modeled in swell-bodied copper with outstretched wings, spread tail, and open beak poised mid-cry.
The surface exhibits a superb untouched verdigris patina, developed through more than a century of rooftop exposure. Mottled green tones blend with bronze undertones, the kind of natural surface that serious collectors prize for its authenticity and rarity.
Hand-hammered construction and lap-soldered seams confirm its 19th/early 20th-century origin, likely the product of a regional New England workshop. The bold, folk-driven modeling contrasts with the more standardized output of major manufacturers, enhancing its individuality and appeal.
Now mounted on a custom black walnut base — a historically prized hardwood — the eagle is presented as both a sculptural object and a significant piece of American folk art and Americana.
