The form and construction of this marvelous weathervane are characteristic of historic 19th century Massachusetts weathervane manufacturers Cushing & White and Jewell & Co. The majestic galloping horse was crafted with molded copper and separately formed sculptural elements. With its strong musculature, dramatic stride, and flowing mane and tail, the equine sculpture presents an illusion of powerful movement. The weathered surface retains extensive traces of early gilding beneath a richly developed green verdigris and brown patina.
Currently mounted on a custom display stand measuring 4" x 29" and includes additional wall mounting materials for alternative display. A very unique decorative piece, demonstrating both stunning craftsmanship and historic value.
L: 40.5"
D: 5"
H: 21" excluding stand, 22" with stand
Good condition apart from a small hole on the top of the horse's mane and another directly above the tail. See photos for details.
