I believe this vintage ice bucket to be crafted by the renowned Italian designer Aldo Tura though it has no label. After doing lots of research, I found that the characteristics of this piece, including condition, look like his earlier pieces. Authenticity often lies in imperfections. It features a rounded shape, tessellated in lacquered goatskin. The corked lid top, spout, handles and top band are made of brass or chromed metal (which came into use in 1924.) The bucket interior appears to be insulated.
Aldo Tura was an Italian designer renowned for his unique and eclectic furniture and barware, which combined a variety of styles including Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Baroque, Surrealist, and modernist influences. Born in 1909, Tura established his furniture production house in 1939 in Lombardy, Italy. His early work included tables and decorative lamps, but he is most famous for his bar furnishings, such as rolling carts, cabinets, and complementary barware accessories like ice buckets and cocktail shakers.
Tura’s signature material was lacquered goatskin, which he used consistently throughout his career, creating pieces that were glamorous. Despite the changing phases in his career, Tura maintained a devotion to traditional craftsmanship and artisanal techniques, choosing not to follow the trend of mass-produced pieces. This commitment to handcrafted, small collections has made Aldo Tura’s pieces rare and highly coveted collectibles today, especially examples with exotic finishes— like eggshell, goatskin, and parchment. As a result, the number of works by Tura available on the vintage market today remains limited.
This Aldo Tura ice bucket is not only a functional barware item but also a COLLECTOR’S PIECE that reflects the glamour and craftsmanship of Italian design during a bygone era. It would make a stunning addition to any home bar or collection. The metal surfaces have not been cleaned because many collectors prefer the aged patina. A choice to be determined by the buyer. Height measurement includes handle in up position.
