Italian giltwood armchair dating to the late 19th–early 20th century, crafted in the Rococo revival taste with a pierced splat back, scrolling arms, and cabriole legs with applied carving. The chair retains its original cane seat, which is intact and well tensioned, and is offered with a loose fitted cushion for optional comfort. The giltwood surface shows honest age-related wear and patina, consistent with age and use. The frame is structurally sound and stable, suitable for regular light seating as an accent or occasional chair in your home
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
Italian Rococo revival accent chairs of this type were produced for light domestic use in bedrooms, dressing rooms, and salons rather than as everyday seating. Their relatively light construction, combined with carved arms and giltwood surfaces, meant that many examples did not survive intact over time. As a result, chairs retaining a stable frame, intact arms, and original cane seat are increasingly difficult to find. This example presents as a well-preserved survivor, offering both sculptural presence and practical use when treated as intended.
