A hair receiver is a small pot with a hole in the lid, kept on the dressing table in the Victorian era to store hair removed from brushes and combs. The hair collected in these receivers was recycled in a number of ways, notably for stuffing small bags called ratts used to bulk out women's hairstyles thus achieving the high and filled out hairstyles which were fashionable in the Victorian era. The use of hair receivers fell into decline in the early 20th century, with shorter hairstyles becoming more fashionable.

Limoges porcelain is considered the finest hard-paste porcelain in the world because of three very specific characteristics. The first being the essential ingredients used in creating Limoges are all local natural ingredients, kaolin, feldspar & quartz. Then the intense firing process that forms the superb glaze that cannot be penetrated by the elements and gives it that exquisite translucence. Finally, an abundance of skilled artists and the French flair for aristic design set a standard that other Europeans and American porcelain producers struggle to emulate. These pieces are marked P L (Porc Leclair) Limoges, France.
