This vintage oyster plate is a round, scalloped-edged dish molded in relief, with six deep, softly triangular wells arranged around a central round basin. The wells alternate between a glossy bubblegum pink and a pale, milky white-blue, each glaze pooling slightly in the hollows to add depth and a wet, jewel-like shine. The central well is glazed in a rich emerald green with subtle mottling and a few small brown flecks at the edge. A raised ring of tiny white scallop shells encircles it, set against a warm brown ground. Between the wells, pale yellow-cream whelk and spiral shells nestle in a tangle of seafoam-green seaweed. Larger white clamshells punctuate the scalloped rim, and the stippled, sandy-brown ground gives the surface a tactile, sea-floor texture. The modeling is crisp and naturalistic, with every ridge and spiral clearly defined under the translucent majolica glazes. The palette of coral pink, aqua, emerald, and cream is playful yet sophisticated, and the glaze carries a soft, aged luster with fine crazing that confirms its age.
Display this plate on a wall as a colorful ceramic accent, set it on a stand on a sideboard or buffet, or use it to present oysters at a special dinner. It complements Victorian, Hollywood Regency, Coastal, Traditional, and Eclectic interiors, especially alongside white linens, silver, and lush greenery. To care for it, hand wash gently with mild soap and lukewarm water, dry promptly, and avoid the dishwasher, abrasive cleaners, and sudden temperature changes, which can worsen crazing. Because of its age and glaze, it is best suited to decorative or occasional light use. The plate measures 9.25 inches (235 mm) wide, 9.25 inches (235 mm) deep, and 0.75 inches (19 mm) high. Offered in very good vintage condition, it retains its original glaze with vibrant color, minor age-appropriate crazing, and light edge wear, and is structurally sound with no visible chips or cracks.
