Bring authentic Americana charm to your space with this striking, fully functional 19th-century cottage shelf clock, manufactured by the renowned Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. of Winsted, Connecticut. Dating from the late Victorian era (circa 1870s–1890s), this classic timepiece features a beautifully structured walnut case accented by an elegant architectural scroll-top pediment and a turned wooden finial.
The glass door swings open to reveal a wonderfully aged zinc dial featuring classic Roman numerals. Collectors will be delighted to find the original, highly coveted manufacturer’s paper label entirely intact and perfectly legible on the reverse side, identifying this piece as the rare "Chromo Time" model.
Adding to its exceptional historic character, the clock retains its original, beautifully detailed stamped-metal cameo pendulum bob, depicting a classical Victorian woman's profile surrounded by fine texturing. Tucked inside the lower compartment is the original wire-gong strike mechanism, accompanied by its original, authentic double-ended brass winding key.
Most importantly, this antique timepiece is in functional running condition, maintaining its historic mechanical heartbeat. Boasting an exquisite, untouched patina, this complete piece of New England horological history is a marvelous, working decorative anchor for traditional, eclectic, or modern rustic interiors.
