Antique Gilt Spelter Figural Mantel Clock with Glass Dome — Circa Late 19th Century
A wonderful antique European figural mantel clock featuring an extraordinarily detailed pastoral scene beneath a tall glass dome.
The gilt spelter case depicts a country gentleman or farmer standing beside a windmill, surrounded by wheat, foliage and beautifully modeled ornamental details. The clock is incorporated directly into the pastoral composition, creating an especially charming example of the elaborate decorative mantel clocks popular during the Victorian era.
The white dial features elegant black Roman numerals and traditional hands surrounded by a gilt beaded bezel.
Below, an exceptionally ornate Rococo Revival-style base is decorated with scrolling foliage, flowers and architectural ornament. The entire composition rests upon a black ebonized base beneath its fitted glass dome.
The clock retains its pendulum and winding key.
A fantastic statement antique for a mantel, library, console, sideboard or collected European-inspired interior.

AGE / ATTRIBUTION
The clock appears consistent with late-19th-century European production. It was acquired as an antique French-style gilt spelter mantel clock. No definitive maker attribution has yet been established, so we have chosen to describe the piece conservatively.
The pastoral windmill subject, elaborate gilt case and glass-dome presentation make this an especially decorative example.
