A rare novelty desk clock in the form of a Victorian cyclist on his bicycle, cast in brass, with the front wheel doubling as the clock face. Made by the British United Clock Company Ltd of Birmingham, England, circa 1890 to 1910. The rear of the case is marked Patented in Great Britain and France, Manufactured by the British United Clock Co Ltd. Mounted on a scrolling brass base with floral relief detail on four scroll feet. The movement inset into the front wheel, upon a rectangular foliate cast stand, 6.25" high. The clock is in full working order, keeping time with a spring driven movement and visible winding mechanism. The face measures about 2".
A wonderful piece for a cycling collector or as a striking display object. Please see photos for full condition, wear is consistent with age.
