This spectacular two-door cabinet features a faux bamboo frame framing tightly woven rattan panels in a striking diagonal herringbone pattern. Designed in the style of historic, high-end tortoiseshell bamboo pieces, this vintage cabinet recalls the glamorous aesthetic lineages of Dorothy Draper, Tony Duquette, and the upscale woven-reed works of Gabriella Crespi. This piece has been entirely transformed from its original plain dark stain through a labor-intensive, multi-step artisan process. To achieve the deep visual complexity of premium Maitland-Smith style furniture, the wood frame was first prepped and sealed before receiving a luminous metallic gold leaf base coat. A custom-formulated dark espresso glaze was then meticulously hand-mottled and stippled over the metallic layer, creating the fluid, organic patterning characteristic of genuine tortoiseshell that allows the gold undertones to catch the light beautifully.
