This beautifully preserved 10-piece service includes nine 9-inch plates, each featuring a different hand-painted fish, together with an impressive 22-inch matching serving platter. The individually painted fish are depicted in aquatic surroundings in soft, naturalistic tones and surrounded by delicate sprays of pink roses.

Elaborate gilt decoration borders each piece, with gold beading following the scalloped rims. The combination of sporting imagery, romantic florals and lavish gilding is wonderfully characteristic of fine Austrian porcelain from the period.

The bottom bears the green O. & E.G. Royal Austria wreath mark associated with Oscar & Edgar Gutherz porcelain of Altrohlau, Bohemia.

Particularly striking displayed as a collection, this service would also make an extraordinary table setting. The monumental 22-inch platter is a fabulous centerpiece on its own, while the nine different fish scenes give each plate individual character. Imagine this set as an instant plate wall.
