An antique Austrian Amphora Art Nouveau figural vase featuring two winged putti climbing a flower-encrusted basket, lavishly decorated with applied porcelain roses, basket-weave molding, and soft pastel glazes. Dating to circa 1895–1905, this sculptural centerpiece is finished in white, pale sage green, light gray, warm camel, dusty rose pink, and pale blue. Its generous scale and deeply modeled composition make it a remarkable example of Amphora's highly decorative Art Nouveau ceramics. This piece complements Art Nouveau, Victorian, Belle Époque, Romantic, Cottage, French Country, traditional, and eclectic collected interiors.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE
Founded in Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia (then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire), Amphora became one of Europe's most celebrated ceramic manufacturers during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While many collectors associate the firm with dramatic Jugendstil and Secessionist designs, Amphora also produced highly sculptural Romantic works such as this, combining naturalistic figures with exuberant floral modeling and inventive forms. What distinguishes this vase is its ambitious construction. Rather than relying on painted decoration, the design is built through hundreds of individually modeled blossoms, deeply molded basket textures, and fully sculpted putti that interact with the vessel itself.
Large figural Amphora vases remain among the firm's most desirable decorative wares, particularly examples retaining their original pastel glazes and exhibiting the remarkable handwork seen here. Even with the disclosed restoration, this is an impressive collector's example that possesses the scale, artistry, and visual presence sought by both Amphora collectors and interior designers.

As expected with a highly encrusted porcelain sculpture of this complexity, there are a few scattered, very minor losses and flea bites to some of the applied flower petals that do not detract from its overall presentation. Displays beautifully with excellent color, glaze, and strong visual impact. less
