This Dutch Delft table lamp started life as a vintage Royal Tichelaar Makkum vase, hand-painted between 1948 and 1979, and … Read more This Dutch Delft table lamp started life as a vintage Royal Tichelaar Makkum vase, hand-painted between 1948 and 1979, and was turned into a one-of-a-kind lamp by Amitābha Studio with a new coral pleated silk shade. The painting is what stands out: a flowering garden full of life — big iron-red and ochre blooms, green leaves, small trees, and birds resting in the branches — all set against a white tin-glaze background. A scalloped scroll runs around the shoulder and a stylized blue wave wraps the foot. Finished with new brass fittings and a fabric-wrapped blue cord.

Every bit of the decoration was done by hand. The colors were brushed over the tin glaze and then fired so they sink into the surface — the same polychrome method Makkum has used for generations. The pottery behind it is one of the oldest businesses in the Netherlands, traced back to a 1572 kiln in the Frisian town of Makkum and kept in the same family for nearly four hundred years.
