The design reflects the theatrical character of french art deco lighting, with a sculptural dancer motif and richly aged bronze and brass elements. The antique gilt finish has developed an attractive natural patina, emphasizing the modelling and decorative details of the composition. The sculptural body is complemented by contrasting marble and black glass elements, giving the lamp the luxurious combination of materials frequently associated with french decorative arts of the period. A marbled glass globe forms the principal shade, softly diffusing the light and providing a strong geometric counterpoint to the figural decoration. When illuminated, the globe creates a warm atmospheric glow and transforms the piece into an illuminated sculpture. The lamp has been professionally rewired and retains a b22 bayonet-fit bulb holder.
