The characteristic … Read more The clean white porcelain basket form vase represents the Imari decorative tradition that originated in 17th century Japan. The characteristic palette of underglaze blue, iron red, and gilt decorative became highly popular in European markets during the 18th and 19th centuries. These basket-form vessels with overhead handles were designed as decorative objects and small flower holders, combining functionality with ornamental appeal. The orange/red flowers that appear to be peonies are beautifully painted, placed artistically across the surface of the vessel, it is a very attractive piece.

A gold seal is on the bottom of the piece. Inarco (International Artware Corporation) was a prominent American import company active from the 1960's through the 1970's specializing in decorative ceramics manufactured in Japan. See less
