Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
Note: Each chair will be packaged in its own individual box, so please be prepared to receive two boxes shipped parcel delivery.
The simplicity and beauty of these petite curved stile two-rung ladderback chairs, with a nod to both Sheraton and Duncan Phyfe, will add character and style in any interior, from modern to traditional. These cuties were made by a friend of mine’s grandfather sometime in the 1920s. Handcrafted from solid oak wood and finished in a reddish mahogany stain with lacquer finish, which still allows the natural wood grain pattern to show through. The slight outward curved rear saber-style legs juxtapose nicely with the cup and ring turned front legs ending in arrow feet. Beneath the horseshoe-shaped cane seat, you’ll find double-H cross stretchers on the sides, one H-cross stretcher on the backside and one bobbin turned front stretcher, all for stability and structural integrity. Each chair measures 33” x 17¼” x 16¼” H/W/D; seat 17¼” x 16¼” W/D; seat-to-floor height 17½”; back 16¼” x 16½” W/H; weight approximately 10 lbs. apiece. Crafted from solid oak wood using mortise and tenon joinery; natural cane seats look new, as they were re-caned a few years ago. In excellent condition with age-appropriate scuffs and scratches. There is a minuscule, and quite indiscernible, break in one cane strand which does not affect the seat’s integrity or beauty (see if you can find it in photo 9). As mentioned, these chairs were handcrafted by my friend’s grandfather who lived on a dairy farm in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Did you know that Baraboo is home to the Circus World Museum and the former headquarters and winter home of the Ringling Brothers Circus?
With their petite profiles, these cuties can easily be placed into service in any room, from guest bedroom to child’s room or closet or to be simply used as decorative display props.
