Rare George Nelson Lucite Grandfather Clock made by Howard Miller Company. A masterpiece of Mid-Century Modern design. Nelson and his studio (George Nelson Associates) created designs for Howard Miller starting in 1947. Most of his clocks were electric wall or table clocks—he only designed a small number of pendulum-driven grandfather/longcase clocks, which makes them a rare find. This is also an earlier version because of the roman numerals instead of graphic dial. The sleek, smoked Lucite (acrylic) case features a signature pill-shaped silhouette, allowing the internal mechanical workings to serve as the visual centerpiece. The minimalist silver-tone dial with Roman numerals is complemented by a high-polish chrome pendulum and triple-weight chain mechanism.
