A very nice Pennsylvania federal tall case clock by David Weatherly (1779-1851) in a beautifully veneered Mahogany case likely made by Thomas Ogden (1824-1830) who made cases for Weatherly and often worked with Brass inlays which are seen on the chamfered lambs tongue corners of the waist and bottom of this case. Featuring Tulip Poplar and white Pine secondary woods typical of early Pennsylvania clock cases. The original painted arched dial has a colorfully painted moon phase dial. The beautifully sounding bell is stamped G. Ainsworth and the dial is signed by the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania clockmaker David Weatherly.
David Weatherly is listed as working in several Philadelphia locations from 1805 through 1850 as a watch and clockmaker. His first working location is at 29 Pewter Platter Alley, 515 No. 10th Street, and 93 No. 3rd Street.
This is a great example of early Philadelphia clocks. The surface is an old refinish and has a great color and patina to the rich Mahogany veneer. The case stands on four ring-turned feet that are applied to the bottom of the case below the base cross banded veneers.
