Hollywood Regency flip-top bar cabinet in an ebonized finish with brass lattice doors, gilt accents, and a classical Greek key frieze, dating to the 1970s. Designed as a concealed home bar, the top lifts and locks into position to create a serving surface while revealing a gold-leaf interior for mixing and presenting cocktails. Brass grille doors with rosette mounts open to shelved bottle and glass storage, and column-form sides reinforce the neoclassical influence characteristic of Regency Revival design. Compact in scale yet visually substantial, it is equally suited as an entertaining cabinet, apartment bar, or accent cabinet. The textile backing behind the grille doors appears to be a later replacement that complements the piece well.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
What I appreciate most is the contrast between the black lacquer finish and the brass grille doors with their warm textile backing. The layered textures give the cabinet depth, while the gold-leaf interior provides an unexpected reveal when the top is opened. It's elegant without feeling overdone.
Hollywood Regency designers of the late 1960s and 1970s reimagined classical European motifs with lacquer, brass, and architectural detailing, creating furniture that balanced glamour with everyday living. Pieces like this remind us that entertaining at home was once something to be revealed rather than always on display—a quiet sense of theater that still feels fresh today.
