This fan was a family heirloom and a true piece of artwork. It was professionally framed in a regal gold gilt, fan shaped shadow box, with light pink lining behind the mounted fan, and a glass fronting. The fan is an intricately hand made victorian, late 1800s piece of art, from France with it's intricately hand sewn silver metal sequin motifs, beautiful semi-sheer ivory fabric, and it's iridescent mother of pearl handle. It's fame has a universal wire on the back for easy mounting on any wall.
In Victorian times fans were used, much like gloves or parasols, for relaying secret messages. Drawing the fan across the cheek supposedly meant 'I love you', while twirling it in the left hand communicated 'We are watched', and dropping it was a suggestion to just be friends. This secret language, said to have consisted of about two dozen different moves or gestures. We will attach a breakdown a fan maker from Paris created in 1872.
This unique piece of history and art is not only a beautiful piece of wall decor, but a conversation starter.
