Ladder backs and cushioned arms are above a shield-form seat with a carved leafage apron terminating in rosettes. All is atop Louis XVI neoclassic legs with stop fluting . These are lovely chairs and desirable in every way. However, it's the paint that really makes them sing. So often, chairs like this would be stripped down during periods where bare light woods were considered very fashionable. Fortunately, this pair has survived and retained most of the painted and decorated surfaces. On the back splats, rosettes, leafage and vines decorate a horizontal surface. Each arm is painted and has tapering fluted supports with needlepoint cushioned elbow pads. Each seat is generously upholstered in a delightful floral cartouche with an undulating midnight blue band surrounding. The aprons are carved and highlighted with paint. The background color is a putty yellow and highlighted throughout reds, greens, and navy. See less
