Vintage Home is pleased to present this complete Antique French Limoges Porcelain Fish Game Set, commissioned and imported by the Borgfeldt Trading Co. out of New York in the late 1800s. The set has the green Limoges Coronet France with a Crown back stamp. The mark is listed in Mary Gaston’s 3rd Edition of “Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain”. The mark was only used between 1891 and 1920 and only by Borgfeldt. The Coronet name was created by George Borgfeldt for his imported Limoges pieces that were manufactured in France. Born in Germany in 1933, Borgfeldt migrated to America in 1855 and started his New York Trading Company in 1861. He imported Limoges porcelain china and insisted each piece be signed by the artist. This set has the artist signature present on each piece and the Gaston book documents the male artist was employed by Limoges in the late 1800s.
The set design is colorful fish swimming through plants and bright flowers with a soft olive green ground. The rims are a highly ornate scalloped design with a line of raised porcelain beads. The rims are accented in gold. There is a large 2-foot long platter, 10 dinner plates and a sauce boat with under tray. We are including my mom’s fabulous Dill Sauce receipt that’s to die-for served with grilled trout.
Platter - 24.75” x 11.5” x 2”
Plates - 9.5” x 9.25” x 1”
Sauce Boat - 9” x 3.25” x 4.5”
Under Plate - 9.5” x 6.5” x 1.25”
