Elegant French mantel clock by Marti et Cie, Paris (19th century)
This decorative mantel clock comes from the renowned Parisian workshop Marti et Cie, one of the most important French clockmakers of the 19th century, which received awards at several world exhibitions, among other things.
The clock is made of finely chiseled bronze and richly gilded. The case features a lavish ornamental design in the Louis XV / Rocaille style, with floral tendrils, volutes, and a central vase. On top is a lovingly crafted figure of a young farm worker with a scythe, surrounded by naturalistic details such as rocks and plants.
The round enamel dial features Roman numerals and elegantly crafted hands. It has two winding holes – typical of hour and half-hour striking mechanisms in French pendulum clocks of this era.
This magnificent pendulum clock is a classic example of 19th-century French bronze clockmaking and an impressive eye-catcher in any collection.
