Because of its striking presence, … Read more This is an antique Vienna Regulator wall clock, made in Germany, circa late 19th century. Because of its striking presence, it typically dominates the wall on which it hangs with its tall, narrow, walnut case, showcasing architectural styling and carvings. These hand-carved details are referred to as "Alt-Deutsch" (Old German), aka Baroque style. It has weight-driven (not spring-powered) movement, with two visible weights and a long pendulum. Amazingly, it has an eight-day run time on a single wind. In general, the Vienna Regulators were originally designed as precision timekeepers, often accurate to within 10 seconds per month when properly adjusted. This clock has not been tested to confirm that level of timekeeping. It features a white enamel face or porcelain dial with Roman numerals. Although this clock has no discoverable maker's mark or manufacturer's signature, attribution is given to the well-known master clockmaker Gustav Eduard Becker (1819-1885; Germany).
