Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
The stunning color variations of this beauty’s green hues, based on light that reflects off of it, trend from avocado to bottle green with citrine green undertones, gorgeous! It was made in the 1960s by the L.E. Smith / Smith Glass Company. Did you know the Moon and Star design was originally known as “The Palace” and was produced from 1894 to 1905, first by the Adams Glass Company of Pittsburgh, PA and later by the United States Glass Company that acquired the old Pittsburgh firm. Over the years, Moon & Star has been produced by many other glass makers with varying modifications to the original pattern. L.E. Smith’s Moon & Star is quite possibly the most well-known. It was in the 1960s that Moon and Star pieces started showing up in the Smith catalogs in various colors and designs. The company offered three Moon & Star pedestal cake stand variations. The one being offered in this listing and as seen in the photos, is the tallest of the three and is the only one with an all-around scalloped skirt and sawtooth rim.
This beauty measures 11” x 11”x 7” W/D/H; inside lip cake surface diameter 10¼; weight 4 lbs. 2 oz. I photographed it in the round to show all sides and nuances of the pattern and coloring throughout. It is crafted from moulded pressed glass. In excellent condition with a couple of inclusions that are original to the manufacturer and not uncommon in glass production which are mostly indiscernible. It is unmarked, as very few L.E. Smith Moon & Star pieces are marked.
Make your tablescape the center of attention with this colorfully elegant beauty at your next gathering!
