The largest bust, cast in bronze, depicts the 19th century French politician Odilon-Barrot who led the council of ministers under Louis Philippe. An inscription on the back indicates this was presented to Coulon Architects in 1839 by Mrs. Odilon-Barrot. The second bust in bronze (with copper finish) honors a distinguished general in his military uniform. It is signed and dated “Devaulx 1859” for Francois Devaulx. The third bust, carved from alabaster and signed “Petri” (for Otto Petri) uses the warmth of the creamy white stone to capture the youthful innocence of the boy subject. Alphanumeric markings are also carved into the base of the alabaster, with a coin underneath for the Goldscheider foundry of Vienna, Austria.
