Offered is a large vintage fantasy sheet metal sculpture depicting Bacchus the Roman God of Wine, by the Argentinian artist Jorge Carino. The sculpture whimsically plays on the positioning of the Dancing Faun of Pompeii, a classical Roman sculpture with the addition of a goblet and vessel of wine. The figure is presented upon a stepped metal base.
Jorge Carnino is an accomplished Argentine metal artist based in Mendoza, Argentina, who specializes in creating highly expressive, narrative iron and sheet metal sculptures. It draws significant inspiration from classical antiquity. However, Carnino interprets this classical subject using a mid-to-late 20th-century vernacular, utilizing rugged, heavily patinated sheet metal components instead of traditional smooth cast bronze.
