Excellent Pre-Owned Condition.
There’s just something about blue and white porcelain ware that makes an elegant bold statement and above all, seems to work with any style. This delightful set of five petite delicately scalloped Japanese porcelain dessert bowls depict three-plants named “Three Friends of Winter”. It is one of the most popular Japanese decorative motifs representing promise and good fortune. Together the three plants stand for the scholarly ideals of pure spirit ume (plum), longevity matsu (pine) and flexibility tāke (bamboo). Each gently scalloped bowl measures 3½” x 3½” x 2” W/D/H; 4 oz. liquid capacity. Together the set weighs 1 lb. 1 oz. Handcrafted from Japanese porcelain, background color is crisp white with pale indigo blue hued accents. The makers' signature or kanji is on the underside of each bowl. In excellent condition with minimal age-appropriate wear. There is one minuscule and indiscernible “sliver” missing on the interior lip of one of the bowls (see photo 8) which I tried to capture but it is truly hard to see and does not affect the beauty or utility of the bowl or the set as a whole. For a collector of blue and white ware, these beauties will complement most any white or blue dinnerware or serveware you may often use when entertaining.
